I thought they were making a new service. It would make sence not to. Then they would have to pay the cost of adding another arrow to the eagle on the dollar bill for the sixth service. But since not a new service, why the Army? Figured it would be an Air Force thing. Oh, for those of you who don't know, the five arrows in the eagles talon represent the five services and the largest arrow represents the Navy since it is the oldest service. Just FYI.

SFC Michael D. -
1) Both versions (House of Representatives, Senate) of the FY19 National Defense Authorization Act direct the establishment of a new Service, but neither one would pull resources from the Dept of the Army. Senate version wants a full Space Force - new Service Department. House version wants a Space Corps - would have a Commandant of the Space Corps (like USMC) but report to the Dept of the AF / SECAF.
BTW, I personally agree with the "it would make sense not to." No need to waste $$$ on more administrative things - we need more money for space operations.
2) Why the Army? Because we have Space Operations in the D.A. - it matters. BTW, I'm one of the Army Space Cadre.
3) Wrong, we predate the Navy by four months. USA - June 14, 1775. USN - October 13, 1775. USMC - November 10, 1775. USAF - September 18, 1947.

PFC Tademy, I am a member of US Army Space & Missile Defense Command (USA SMDC) - a LTG (3*) led Army Service Component Command.
Under us is 1st Space Brigade, which has a 1st Space Battalion and a 53d Signal Battalion (SATCON). For 1 SP BN, they do have billets there are for 25S and 25B at grades E5+ (sometimes sourced with a real sharp SPC)- unfortunately from your profile it looks like you're a 25U. You can try for the 53d SIG BN, S6 shop may have 25U slots, I'd have to check. BTW, 53d SIG BN has moved by task organization under a new COL, the Commander of the provisional "Task Force Eagle".
No packet is necessary, the assignments are assigned as normal by Branch HRC.

Update:
53d SIG BN is no longer in 1 SP BDE. We have established the "US Army SATCOM Brigade" and 53d SIG BN is subordinate to them.

Really? Pretty sure that Colonel Dr. Andrew “Drew” Morgan would call bullshit on your ignorant assessment of situation... he's a NASA Astronaut currently on the International Space Station that's also a US Army Officer, Functional Area 40, assigned to Space & Missile Defense Command (us).
