What is the difference between JBSA Training Annex, Fort Sam Houston and Lackland AFB?

I’m a SIGINT Analyst stationed at Fort Riley, KS. I’m looking forward to leaving FORSCOM and getting to do my actual job daily. I’d like to get with INSCOM and work for NSA at my next duty station.
I went to see retention and JBSA Training Annex and Fort Sam Houston both came up as options. Now, I have Battle’s at Lackland working with NSA. I’m curious as to the difference between the training annex and Ft Sam Houston. Also, Lackland didn’t show up, is Lackland part of the JBSA Training Annex? Any info anyone can provide is greatly appreciated. I’d like to thank you for all replies in advance!

All of them are underneath the Joint Base San Antonio umbrella.
While this is by no means what the bases are exclusively used for I'll give you some highlights for each one.
JBSA-Fort Sam is a major medical training base because of San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC).
JBSA-Training Annex Medina used to be where NSA was but now it's predominantly a TACP training base.
JBSA-Lackland has a lot of different things on it but what you probably care most about is Security Hill where all the Intel and Cyber people are.
NSA-T is a separate entity about 20mins away from Lackland.

Maj Kevin "Mac" McLaughlin Good point Sir. Also Randolph is under the JBSA umbrella.

SPC (Join to see) you’d likely go to one of the cyber units on the Medina annex (I don't think they have many Army though, if any). There we have several units to include the 92nd, 834th, 833rd, and 836th COS units (and others). Some only house the leadership for the units, others have the whole operational portions as well. I have a guess of where you will go but I’ll let you be surprised. Note, Ft. Sam has some of it's own cyber ops, I'm just not that well versed on what degree.

Lackland and Sam Houston are both in San Antonio. Both are Joint Base now but Lackland since in was Air Force has better facilities and San Houston has older facilities. Lackland is southwest and Sam Houston is northeast. Lackland is the home of basic training and Sam Houston is the home of medical training. This site will tell you about both.

Official website of Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA). The Air Force is the lead agency for Joint Base San Antonio, comprising three primary locations at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston, JBSA-Lackland and JBSA-Randolph, plus eight other operating locations and 266 mission partners.

PFC Burnett, I just left NSAT. As part of the 717th Lackland is where the Army barracks are as well as most of your formations and PT. Being Army and a SIGINTer chances are you will be assigned to the 717th. Your job will not be on Lackland AFB. It will be at the NSAT complex a 5-10 minutes drive straight from Lackland AFB main gate. If you happen to come down on orders for JBSA please contact me and I will put you in contact with some of my old Soldiers that are still there.
