One of my soldiers failed out of BLC for failing 2 consecutive PT tests. He stated it was because he did not want to be promoted due to our low points at the time to get picked up. He came back to our unit and received a flag for failing an APFT and a 9K bar for failing an NCOES school. He passed the APFT the unit gave him a month later and he is now on profile with an ETS date of some time in the next 6 months and he can not re attend BLC to lift the bar due to the temporary profile. Any help would be greatly appreciated

The commander can now lift his bar. He won't be eligible to attend BLC with an ETS date of the next 6 months, and he can't extend to meet the SRR while he's barred.
If the command questions the validity of the decision, you can point to AR 601-280 in the Glossary under NCOES removal. It states that the commander can choose not to bar the SM.

If the commander decides to maintain the bar, does he maintain a Honorable Discharge thus giving him the full list of benefits? Or will the commander be able to downgrade it?
