I just PCSed to bragg, still on my first contract, coming from 173rd I couldn’t reenlist over there because i was already on orders, retention nco here at bragg told me that the 36 month commitment has to be consecutive in one duty station, how long do i need to be in bragg before i can reenlist for another duty station, i want to go to sam houston and ets there, can it happen if i drop my airborne identifier?

SPC (Join to see) Is your HOR in Texas? If so, you do realize that when you ETS, the government will pay to return you to your HOR?

SPC (Join to see) - Normal orders usually require 2-4 years on station before PCSing. I don't think dropping your ABN status will help.

SFC (Join to see) - Do you have any insight?

Side note and cause I'm nosy...lol: Why aren't you working on finishing your degree while you're stationed at Bragg now? Are you using TA? You know that even if you get placed at SH, you're not guaranteed to go to school by the unit, right? How was Germany?

SGT Javier Silva it's a tricky situation. Normally, coming to Bragg you would have to sign a statement saying that you accept airborne duty for 36 months from reporting to Bragg. It would have been part of the levy brief. The current retention policy is 36 months to leave airborne and 24 months to go airborne to Airborne. Of course, in this case if he didn't sign an acceptance memo that might not apply. Dropping your status won't have much effect, it's the commitment that was already made that keeps him there.
But that's really splitting hairs. The main thing to worry about is that he's 95% going to be disapproved for Ft Sam. Regardless of the MOS it's hard to get because it's a small post and it's a dumping ground for compassionate reassignments.

You can probally reenlist for another duty station but the orders for that new duty station would be dated for after you complete 36 months.
