Hello all, so I am looking into reclassing. I live on post right now my husband has a job. If I reclass, would they be able to stay in our house while I’m at my new ait and then when I graduate and get orders we will then move? I’m not sure how living situations work especially when getting your class seat is jumpy and they can send me so suddenly. How does it work for a family with a child?

You can keep your family on post while on school. Once you get your new duty station orders you can move them. Or better yet, report and then go on leave IOT move your family!

All goodSPC (Join to see), but don’t cut your self short due to stinginess! Focus on taking care of the family rather than saving a few bucks.

The class seats aren't jumpy, you get locked into the first available class seat that's 90 days away or more. Once you're within 90 days of training start, you'll get your follow on assignment. You can usually choose to leave your family there while you're in school.

A soldier in my company reclassed and her seat kept getting pushed back and then boom she got the email and had to report a week later. Idk if something was up but I was going off her experience and what retention said.

SPC (Join to see) that's extremely uncommon. But sometimes schools are running pilot programs or have to cancel a class. As long as you remain eligible the class date almost never changes

SPC (Join to see) If your school is more than 20 weeks, they will be able to move as a PCS move. However, most reclass schools aren't that long unless your reclassing to Fire Fighting, or something that has the same length of time, which means that they will remain at the current location. When you receive your orders from AIT, they will be PCS orders that will move you and your family to your new duty station.

Pretty much waiting, got to get released and accepted but this mos is more understaffed so retention said it’ll get approved it’s just the matter of getting a class seat for reclassification. SGT Javier Silva

SPC (Join to see) - As soon as you get your orders, make sure to read them. They will detail whether you can ultimately move your family, or not. If the school one doesn't, the follow-on orders assignment will. The Army wants to make sure that it is cost-effective to move a family twice.

Well my ultimate need is to not move them. For my husband to stay here work and when I’m done we can arrange the move. So I’m hoping I don’t have to move them, unnecessary to do all that in my head if they can just stay put for a few months SGT Javier Silva
