I finalized my paperwork today, already passed MEPS and that fun stuff. Recruiter showed me on his computer what's available for my MOS interests (11x and 13F) and neither had airborne in the available contracts. He then showed me that no MOS right now has an Airborne guarantee. I was told that if my PT scores and the like are high, there is a decent chance to get a slot during AIT. I'm 28 so I'm not too keen on signing up without the opportunities that I'm looking for. I'm also aware recruiters are essentially salesmen so I take what is said with a grain or two of salt. I'm supposed to go to MEPS and sign my contract this Monday, but am willing to tell them no if waiting allows me the opportunity I'm looking for.

Thank you in advance for your replies, cheers guys.

I do not know how it works today, when I enlisted in 1964, I asked for Jump school and went right after I finished my AIT. Ft. Benning, GA. jump school, Helps if you are in good shape, lots of PT.....

Im sure some has changed, but from the sounds of it PT is still pushed hard. I was advised to get my miles in the low 7s to prepare. Cheers man.

Okay, so what you’re telling me is that you’re not being offered any option 4 contracts at any available MOS. I would ask your recruiter again for an option 4 contract. Or wait until an option 4 slot is available.

Once your in training it is difficult to find a spot at airborne. Not impossible but difficult. When you sign up for service someone already knows where you’re gonna end up as a first duty station. If you decide or are able to have airborne in your contract the you will most likely go to fort Bragg, 173rd, or 25th ID in that order of probability.

Check with your recruiter don’t sign a darn thing until you get what you want

Yes sir, that is correct. I appreciate the reply and advice, sounds like it may be worth it to wait until an Op-4 pops up. Cheers man.

You will probably need to prove yourself before you get a slot. A recruiter will do all he or she can to put you in boots. If Airborne is possible it will be offered if you qualify.
