Current IMA here. Managed to come back after a long break in service. Not a lot of options for one who has a stale AFSC and currently overseas. I went back to Tech school but that just wasn’t the greatest fit. I’m left with limited options now since I’m still overseas but I’m trying my best to stay in as a reservist. IMA no longer seems to be much of an option since I’ll need to be retrained. TR is my only option now but also, looking pretty slim as folks don’t want to deal with someone commuting. I think I have to find one OIC willing to approve or I go back to IRR which I don’t want as it took me nearly two years just to return to service. ANY suggestions out there are welcome....!

The Army Reserves has more overseas TPU options than the Air Force. Have you looked into crossing over?

I’m staying Air Force if at all. The Army is not an option nor a desire mainly because I no interest in going to boot camp again. .

SrA (Join to see) completely understand. Boot camp isn't really fun per se. Regardless, it doesn't hurt to talk to a recruiter and explore you're options. Here's a link to more info on the program that comes to mind - https://m.goarmy.com/careers-and-jobs/current-and-prior-service/continue-serving/transitioning-services/inter-service-transfer-program.m.html

In Army language, I need an MOS or else I have to go back to IRR. My challenge is trying to find a career field I can retrain into. Without one currently, I can’t retrain unless exceptions are made. It’s a bit of a catch 22 really. No, not switching to the Army.
