Okay so i am currently engaged and my fiancé just began basic training and is set to go to ait after. We had planned on getting married the day after he gets back from ait because we were told he could come home for a period of time. If we are married after he gets back from ait, will i be on his orders? i’m worried he’s gonna he sent somewhere that i can’t go with him. i’m so new to all of this and have no clue how it works and i’m very stressed and need help in the worst way. thank you

Unfortunately you won’t be able to be added to your spouse orders. If he is in AIT, once he departs that installation they will not be able to amend his orders. Once you get married, you will have to accompany him to get added into DEERS, so hopefully you’re in a location close to a Military base. You will need to have your Social Security card(original not copy), your birthday certificate(original not copy) and a driver’s license or state issued ID card for the enrollment into DEERS and to be issued your ID card.

If he receives an assignment stateside the process will be easier to get you to where he is, you’ll just have to wait until he submit his paperwork to his Battalion S1 to initiate the start of his BAH & BAS entitlements, so hopefully he’s been saving because once the paperwork is submitted he’ll have to move out of the barracks. He’ll be able to sign up for on post housing which you will be able to save you some money since you’ll just be starting out.

If his assignment is overseas, he still has to submit the paperwork for through his Battalion S1 for his BAH, but he’ll also have to do paperwork to request command sponsorship. You would need to get a physical and get the a DA Form 5118 completed so you can get cleared medically to accompany him overseas. This process can take 90-120days before you receive orders to accompany him. I know this is a lot to take in at one time but just wanted to lay it out for you to help you get an understanding of the process. I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

thank you for suggesting it to me. i have been looking into it and for cases involving the military is called “double proxy” and is available to anyone in the military and i am in the process of getting the information paperwork. but thank you so much, that has been a life saver just knowing that SFC Casey O'Mally

Courtney Philpot - Also, once you are married, KY has two pretty decently sized installations, Fort Campbell to the South and Fort Knox to the north. Either will be fully able to process a DEERS enrollment during any normal duty day (usually around 8AM - 4PM M-F, but may vary some from that). Other facilities exist, but their hours are less predictable. (And you don't have to go to an Army facility - any Department of Defense (DoD) facility that has a DEERS office can help you out - DEERS is a DoD wide program.)

SFC Casey O'Mally this may be an odd question but could the MEPS facility in knoxville process that as well? i’m actually much closer to them, i figured it would be worth asking at least

Probably. I would have to imagine a MEPS has a DEERS office because new servicememembers need to enroll in DEERS if they already have family members. However they may not be open to the "public" due to volume.

I would give them a call and check. Bluegrass Army Depot (BGAD) may also be an option that is closer than Knox or Campbell, but I do not know if they even have DEERs there.

In order to get added to his orders he would have to reach back to his AIT after he enrolls his spouse in DEERS, in order to request amended orders. He probably won't be successful in doing that prior to inprocessing his first assignment.
The advice SGT Logan gave you isn't wrong, it just only applies for dual military, and I believe you are a dependent and would be considered an acquired dependent, meaning that the military will not pay to move you to his next location if you are not already married.

Courtney Philpot you can join him once he loves. If he goes overseas it's a more extended process to gain command sponsorship in order to come over with him.

As far as I know from being married to a solider for 13 years. He will have to get his orders amended. You are not going to be add to them until after your married. My advice as soon as your married take your certificate to his command and shoe Them your married so thr paperwork can get started. He may have to go ahead of you and then you join him. But also remember they don't have to put you at the same post. I believe it's 50 miles of each other. If you need more help let me know.

Your welcome. I remeber when we were being sent to Germany. They wanted to send him first but it took a bit but we got the paperwork together and we both went at the same time. Just be calm and you will be fine.

That would be nice but if you have to go Germany is a great place to go. I loved it over there. We lived on one post he worked in Mannheim and I stayed in Heidelberg. It was good.
