There is a best warrior competition with categories for enlisted and NCOs. Should there be a board for officers to compete?

Absolutely, Sir. Only instead of being called a board, it should be called a match, and the warriors should compete on a swath of green in plaid shorts using only metal clubs as weapons and little white, dimpled balls as ammo. I'm all for it!

=)

Edit: Adding emoticon for those who don't have as good a sense of humor as CPT Maurelli.

My personal belief is that officers should be focused on other matters, although you do bring up an interesting question.

Col (Join to see) I think that SGMs and CSMs have more important things to do than keep changing our uniforms, but they keep doing it (and doing it and doing it). They also put A LOT of emphasis on their boards why not have a LTC put focus on an officer board to brag about the winner as SGMs and CSMs brag when their Soldiers or NCOs win their competitions. Why not allow officers to actually be proud and brag about our officers?

I would be interested in others thoughts on this, in my humble opinion I believe that officers should focus on their troops, the mission, and all of the sub-tasks necessary to take care of both of the above seamlessly. It is for this reason that I am not fond of the concept of an officer of the quarter (CGO, FGO) or OTY-type awards that I've seen in the past. In my personal view, team awards and Enlisted categories are sufficient. IMHO officership should be focused more on recognizing others performance, recognizing and promoting talent, and shaping the force through sound mentorship and leadership. Perhaps I'm a bit old school in this regard, and it may not be the most popular stance, just my unfiltered thoughts on the subject. All that said, there are other areas where I do believe that officers can compete, the exceptional athlete program, each service may have a different name for this, though I do believeve that they all participate to some degree or another.

Maybe if you kept it at CPT and below. If a brand new LT is going to be a PLT LDR, or a ne CPT be my Company CDR he should know all the SMCTs all the way to 30 Level (Squad Leader) at least. After Company CDR time, your pretty much Staff Officer until your selected for BN CDR. Just a thought.
