One-of-four Gulf War Veterans (GWV) are affected by GWI. Why are they reluctant to volunteer for ongoing clinical research and trials?

"Gulf War illness (GWI) is a serious condition that affects at least one fourth of the 697,000 U.S. veterans who served in the 1990-1991 Gulf War. This complex of multiple concurrent symptoms typically includes persistent memory and concentration problems, chronic headaches, widespread pain, gastrointestinal problems, and other chronic abnormalities not explained by well-established diagnoses. No effective treatments have been identified for Gulf War illness and studies indicate that few veterans have recovered over time. Jesus Christ Jim, they study the damn stuff for over a decade- the whole damn time telling us "it's not a problem", It's in your mind", etc. VA will put you on the list- but I have never been contacted about any of it. When I complained about losing my photographic memory, and problems concentrating they asked How I could prove it. Again not help. Shit fire they are still screwing over blue water sailors from Vietnam!

Bill you make a number of powerful points. But if there is a will there must be a way... I see that there are new clinical interventions in Gulf War research. The Vietnam Veterans continue to fight, we must do the same.
