I am currently out-processing Korea and am PCSing to the Fort Belvoir WTU. I would like any general advice on what to expect in the coming months as I go through this process. For me and my family our lives are about to change. And I also want to ready my family as well. I already plan to go back to college after the Medboard but I can use any help for during the process and after.

SPC Patrick,
I was medically retired last year. In the WTU you will have lots of medical appointments as well as other military duties. While your there this is your time to get EVERY medical issue you have ever had on paper in your medical file in case you do not RTD. Just in case start putting some money aside for a savings. You will have up to 2 months no pay if you seperate until your disability kicks in. Once you know if you are not RTD do a few things. 1 get your perm profile and file for social security disability. (You will get denied once but reapply). And yes you can get social security disability from injuries in the military no matter your age. I am 29 and have had SSA disability for 2 years. Also make sure you keep a copy of your entire medical record you will need it for the VA disability exams. If you want more information or someone to talk with send me a pvt message and I will be happy to share my experience in the WTU and knowledge about medical disability.

Also forgot to tell you. If you do go before a board make sure you consult with JAG as well as a veteran origination they will help you out to ensure you are getting everything you can.

I was told I was being sent to WTU and I've got a ton of questions. How can I speak with you?

Spending a lot of time at med appointments. Then you become the go to when it comes to CQ or SD duty. When it finally goes through you have the typical out processing procedures without the quick talk of reenlisting. Make sure to copy every last scrap of medical records. It will help with VA and then in college you can get support due to your injuries.

What do you mean by getting support due to injuries in college?

First things first. A med board does not mean you are going to be separated. Expect lots of medical appts, document everything and get copies of everything!

Already planned on it MSgt Joshua Copeland. I Currently have just over 1 year left in the army lumbosacral spondylolisthesis or from what i have read about it is a degeneration of the spinal column. Even if they told me I was fit to return to service I would decide not to re-enlist so as not risk doing anymore damage to my body. So it's kind of a two way post for me.
