ISIS Launching Attack on Kirkuk: Desperation? Overreach?

ISIS is launching another offensive. This time it is on the Kurdish city to Kirkuk in an attempt to divert troops and resources away from the critical ISIS controlled coty of Mosul. I feel that ISIS is over-stretching their lines and that they will be unable to sustain this offensive for long. The Peshmerga will not give ground easily and Coalition air support should help blunt the attack. Is ISIS getting desperate? If so, does this desperation make them more vulnerable or more dangerous?

I don't know if it's either. From we've been seeing, these jackwagons are very fluid in their movement. Giving up territory to take over another, or to suck in troops only to swoop back in to slaughter them later.
We must remember, they are guerrilla fighters. They are not the typical standing army. They are going to attack & move. Strike & feint.
Recent reports have it that the Iraqi military is taking back Tikrit. The surrounding area is controlled by ISIS. I have a sneaking feeling that they will give up Tikrit to lure the Iraqis in & then surround them again.
