The most memorable excuse I heard was "Jesus is my Battle Buddy".

Wait a minute he was just here, somebody must've kidnapped him, we need to alert the MPs, please SGT help me find him or the MPs.

When I stopped laughing I reamed him for about 10 minutes and then turned him over to his PSG, I was currently on CP at the time.

Sergeant, I have an M16. She is my battle buddy. And *she* has 210 of her own little battle buddies, including one in the chamber. Can I go do some actual work, now?

My companion was also at least an M16, We were issued 15 magazines but loaded them each with 18 rounds (it was found 20 rounds would weaken the magazine spring an it would feed right) That added up to 720 rounds but We could get as much as We wanted with no problem. Many of our post though also had M60s, some 50 calibers and we even had 81 mm Mortars. Some had M12 shotguns. APCs had 50 Calibers and M60s, jeeps M60s. We were trained on all of them but except for the Mortar I had used all of them in Vietnam. I was within the USAF Security Police and We were the defenders of the air bases.

In basic my "Battle Buddy" was a profile, no style... I'd always say, "He's at troop medical Drill Sergeant!"
