I am moving to fort Eustis, can anyone give me the Pros and Cons in regards to living on Post and living off Post. I am a single parent with a child in kindergarten, so a great school is a priority to include “low crime” rate, assuming it’s in every section of VA. Would anyone have any location recommendations?

I live here on Fort Eustis right now. My opinion and best advice: on post housing is where you’ll want to be. General Stanford Elementary on post is great, I’d say much better than most schools in the Newport News/Yorktown/Williamsburg area. Traffic can get congested off post (I-64 with all of its construction, Main Gate, Warwick Gate). The best part about living on post for my family and I is that I’m within five minutes from anywhere that I need to be, unless of course it’s somewhere off post. It’s super convenient and one of the only places that I would even consider living on post.
As for the community off post, I can’t speak much about. One thing that sold on post housing for me was that the Hampton Roads area has a higher rate of human trafficking than most places.

Either Williamsburg or York county for sure if you want off post. But with your current situation I would strongly fly encourage you stay on Ft Eustis. Because of your child being in kindergarten it's a no brainers and being a single parent. You can drive anywhere on ft eustis in a couple of minutes. Close to work.. close to school.. close to home. Been here going on 20+ years myself and know the area well. Good luck.
