If I am currently an SMP cadet at and I’m about to be an ms3 am I able to transfer my contract to a different college out of state. I am currently non scholarship and I am thinking of getting a job in Texas and taking some classes online and possibly doing ROTC at a university near where I want to work. Would I be able to transfer schools and still be an ms3 smp cadet?

This is an interesting question that I have not dealt with before. My recommendation is to stay in place, honor your contract, and graduate on time. You are little over a year from commissioning. There are a couple of things I know for sure. First you have to be in a full time status as a student to be a contracted cadet. Taking some classes online may not put you in that situation. Second, you are enrolled as a cadet at a specific institution. So you would not be able to take online classes at your current school and do ROTC at a different school. Third, as MAJ Chu and COL McClellan said, transferring schools does not mean all your credits would transfer. So this may affect your graduation date. Again, I would say that you made a commitment to the Army and your ROTC program and you should live up to that commitment.

The school you are talking about would also have to be affiliated with Army ROTC, AND - to be an MS3 you have to be a full-time student, not just talking "some classes" and your 104-R would have to show that you were on-track to graduate on-time for commissioning.

Would you know if could do online classes through my old school and then do just ROTC at the one in Texas or is that not possible.

SGT (Join to see) - That's a little too detailed for me at this point as I have been out of ROTC leadership for a while - I agree w/MAJ Chu that you need to ask these Qs of your ROTC detachment. Your assigned academic advisor or the "ROO" should be to give the answers you need. Anyway you do it, to be a Cadet in the Advanced Course (MSIII, MSIV) you are going to have to be a full-time student - as defined by the university where you are enrolled. What you are describing would be difficult, at best. My sense is it may not be doable - but you should ask your chain-of-command. Good luck!
