Looking for answers here, joined the Guard as prior service from the Marines to have alittle bit of the military around me while at school, recruiter tells me I’m getting a 20,000 bonus, it’s a nice incentive, but not the reason I joined. The contract states the first installment will be 180 days after reaching my unit, and we’re now approaching day 240, and I’ve recently had a family emergency, meanwhile the VA is late on the BAH payments. I’ve been on my Retention NCO for months about it, but I’m getting Told it’s “next” month for the 2nd time around on it, is there any steps I can take to get some answers?

As of right now the Guard system used for bonuses is being rebuilt. It suffered a catastrophic failure a few months back (October-ish) and is being worked. However, your state incentive manager should have been tracking on your bonus as being delinquent. Given that they just recently started working on manual payments for the backlog (28Jan19 was the date I was informed that they could start processing), and that they are breaking into chunks of months due, you might still be waiting on a payment for December (if my math as you describe it is right). I know currently my state just started submitting manual payments for December and then you need to tack on around 2 weeks after the submittal date. The "next month" line is what keeps getting fed out on when the system will be fixed but they've been saying that since mid December. Your unit admin should have had this information as well.
