I am a U.S. citizen living in the Philippines. I filed for pension benefits. In July, 2018 the VA denied and asked me to submit marriage documentation (that they already had with the original application). I contacted the American Legion. They filed the documentation for me in Manila. Now, the American Legion, Department Service Officer, will not return my calls. Is there a way I can check the status of my claim?

You can check your own claim on e benefits. Here is the link. You can even submit your own paperwork and claims. While have a veteran service officer help you is great, you can do it all yourself via the internet. Best of luck to you

I agree with GySgt Wides, and you can also check status at: https://www.va.gov
Apply for and manage the VA benefits and services you’ve earned as a Veteran, Servicemember, or family member—like health care, disability, education, and more.

Thanks for the input guys. I tried eBenefits again today. I selected Claims Status. Then I selected "Upgrade with DS Logon registration wizard. It sent me back to the home page with no selection for upgrading to Premium status. .gov will let me logon, but will not let me upgrade to Premium access without a U.S. phone number as part of their required dual verification process with IDme!
