So, my wife is considering joining the Army to complete her medical degree. She is qualified however, she has several non-life threatening allergies. Additionally, several of those allergies involve ingredients found in some vaccines. Any reason she could not get a waiver for these? Any firsthand experience would be greatly appreciated.

Given her clinical inclinations, I'm assuming she's had full workup by MD or DO with PhD in clinical immunology...I'd obv get it all thoroughly documented, certainly, though I don't know about exceptions to immunizations, honest...I was doctoral level allied health, we shut my license sevl yrs ago, I'm total perm disabled now, however, honestly, I realize she wants Army, you being in I can understand why, however, if you and she might care to try an alternate avenue, look at http://www.usphs.gov, and use Google to find the Jr and Sr COSTEP programs for the USPJS Commissioned Corps, their toll free recruiting phone is [login to see] , have her call and explain her background...I trained under one of their O-6 in what I was goingg for, I wanted to go back in that way, I was never able...also, if shed be willing to go psychiatry, USPHS has an intersvc agreement with Army, Navy, and USAF, to use psych related USPHS due to shortages of psych clinical staff in the other svcs...in addn, USPHS can let her be assigned near you with far greater flexibility, being as they use their staff with FDA, CDC, NIH, Bureau of Prisons, Indian Health Svc, AHRQ, a separate entity, if she's going now, how far along is she? Also, is she going MD or DO? I'd be most interested to hear more, the USPHS has a full job page devoted to the intersvc psych related spots open, lemme know what you think, they might be somewhat more flexible about the whole allergy thing, though you'd have to ask them, of course...also, are you doing your assocs? Bach? If you're going for STEM, USPHS does use engineers comp sci (CS), and IT, even if you might not want clinical, I don't know if they have a need, however, I merely figured I'd mention it on the off chance such things might interest you as well....
