Do reservists always get a DD-256?

I served for 6 years enlisted on AD in the Air Force. I fulfilled my contract and received a DD-214. I then spent the remaining two years of my MSO in the Selected Reserves. I never received any discharge paperwork DD256 as I was an IMA supervised by AD and wasn't given a direct answer. Was I supposed to get something or does being within my MSO (8 years) have anything to do with any lack of paperwork?
