The current policy is that you can request to reenlist to stabilize in an OCONUS assignment, but your MACOM has to verify the strengths of your MOS at your location.
When you are 16 months out you can submit your request to reenlist for a duty station or stabilize for 18 months past your DEROS. 15 months you can reenlist. However, that must be accomplished prior to 6 months before your DEROS because that is when your branch must place you on assignment. They may place you on assignment earlier, but since you're a first term soldier, they will not. If you are on assignment instructions, you may not reenlist to stay. Although, there is something called a first term statement that will allow you to have those orders deleted - but only if you need to reenlist to take those orders.
