How does the military spousal program work? How does educational benefits work for them as well? Trying to make sure that my husband has all that he needs whenever we PCS. Thanks in advance!

ACS has a spouse program that doesn't actually guarantee work for spouses but can help place them. If you are CONUS there are positions on base that prefer to hire spouses. OCONUS it's very difficult for spouses to find work that doesn't involve selling Scentsy candles or leggings to other spouses. Each ACS program and funding is specific to its post so you have to contact the post you are moving to.
Once you have 6 years in you can transfer your GI Bill to your spouse and they can use that. They won't qualify for the BAH but all the other benefits will remain. Most people don't know this, but the SOCAD agreement applies to spouses as well so your spouse can enjoy the same transferabilty of their college course work within the SOCAD network as you do.

SFC, we are going to Hawaii next. I’ve heard that it’s hard to get spouses a job locally so on post may be his best option. That is good to know for the education as well. Thank you!

SSG (Join to see) when I said OCONUS I didn't mean Hawaii and Alaska. Most countries have an agreement with the US that we have to hire a certain number of local nationals to work on base, and it's difficult for spouses who don't speak the local language to be hired off base. I don't know about the job market in Hawaii but at least he won't have to contend with that

Oh, I was tracking that part. I was just throwing out there that that’s where we are going and what I’ve heard about that area so far. One of the Chaplains in my office is headed to Germany and his wife won’t be able to work while she’s there for that reason.
Not that it should matter but I’ve also been told that because he’s white that he probably won’t get a job with the locals but we will have to see once we get there for that. Don’t want to jump ahead of ourselves or think that way about people that we haven’t met.SFC (Join to see)
