Can I go green to gold in the middle of a contract?

I’m currently active duty army after having re-enlisted last March. My original contract was three years as a Bradley mechanic, and I told myself I wouldn’t re-enlist unless I could switch to 68T (vet assistant) otherwise I’d get out and pursue going to vet school on the civilian side. I know that was unrealistic, so when they offered me a slot in 68V (respiratory therapist) I decided to take it because I would graduate with a certification. I’m currently four months into the 11 month program but I was recently told I could still pursue becoming a vet by switching to officer. I was wondering if anyone had any more information on this, what the process would be, could I choose to do that immediately or would I have to wait for my reenlistment window to open again. Thank you in advance.

You would need to get accepted to a university with a green to gold program then get the paperwork signed by your company and battalion Commander. You'd likely have to wait until you're out of your initial training. Acceptance for green to gold releases you from all contact obligations as soon as you are accepted. Once in the program and at the completion of your bachelor's degree, you would have to apply for an accredited veterinary program and then get approval from the Army to enter that program and begin training in the veterinary Corps training program.

You can do G2G at any time unless you owe a service obligation for specialty training. It sounds like you're in an AIT of sorts am I right? If so, you'll have to talk to the chain of command (you would regardless) about pursuing G2G

There's the basic information. In the left column there is more links about addition G2G programs you may be interested in.

When you enroll in Army ROTC, you'll get more than college degree and scholarships. Gain leadership skills you can apply to your career and as an Officer.

I figured, especially with this program being very long and difficult to get into. Worse case scenario if it doesn’t work out as planned I’ll still have an RT certification to fall back on.

I dont think there is any commitment to stay in an MOS or at a duty station, when I got picked up last year I had just got to Ft. Eustis to be an instructor at the AIT school house. I called HRC to make sure they wouldn't try to keep me there since I hadn't been on station for a year, they said it didnt matter and I PCSD back to Colorado to start school 7 months later.
