Not saying no, but keep in mind that your PRIMARY mentor is going to be your first line supervisor. The chain of command exists for a reason. Not only for command but for the betterment of the Service-member. It is their charge to train you to be their eventual replacement.
Every command is a little different, so any questions you have will be nuanced with that in mind. Foster the relationship with your first line supervisor and become a sponge. In cases he can't or won't answer, and is unwilling to direct you to the place to find said answers come back here. We've got a lot of knowledge. We'll help you find the answers. Feel free to PM me anytime. I'm not Navy, but I've got a fair bit of time on ships and can probably point you to the right person or source.

Speaking as a reservist, primarily ask around your unit and NOSC staff for what you need to do on and off drill weekend. you will be doing some NKO courses off of drill weekend based on the plan of the drill weekend. Reservist are able to reschedule future drill dates to different days as well as additional drills periods (which are split into periods 1 &2 that count as Active duty days) through their NSIPs and let the chain know. set up your 2 week annual training with your command as well, because if done near the end of the FY funding will be tight in some cases. also for ATs, read your orders once approved after submitting them and getting approved in NROWS for the travel voucher at the end. you will get payment within 5 business days but don't use any of it until GTCC is zero balanced. Important keep a original and minimum 3 copies of everything because paperwork can be lost, especially if your doing work up for future mobilizations through volunteering or voluntold. your reserve chain is your initial guidance and will help with berthing and getting situated in the reserves, and get to know the NOSC staff when possible since it can help to keep them in good graces for down the line.
