A lot of 1st term Soldiers that get Germany as their first duty station got super lucky. You have a chance just like any other new recruit coming in, but don't know the chances. It all depends on unit strength and needs....I will tell you, it's not good to get Germany as your first duty station because you will get spoiled in LALA Land.......... I think you need to get a taste of what the real Army is like in one of the major divisions........... But if you stay in the Army long enough, you will eventually get your vacation and come to Germany...........

I was in Baumholder Germany, I didn’t even realize I was in ‘laps land’ or not in the ‘real’ Army. Only someone not in the military would call Germany not the real Army.

Good morning Ma'am, how are you doing today? I didn't mean to offend you, but I'm speaking for Germany since the departure of the two main divisions 1st AD & 1st ID. I have no idea how long you been in Ma'am, but if you ever served with any of the two Germany based divisions in the past, you will understand what I mean compared to now. I started out as infantry 11C with 4th ID in Carson, then reclassified to transportation 88M, spent 4 years with 1AD in Germany, then transferred to a TRANSCOM in Germany. I can personally tell you, coming from a divisional to a non-divisional unit in Germany was a night and day difference. Everything was relaxed. From what I've seen in the past until this current day, Soldiers that are assigned or attached to non combat units in Germany are too relaxed and act like they are on vacation, while those who are attached or assigned to combat units are getting a taste of the real Army life. Unfortunately for some of the spoiled in Germany, their careers will end once they get back to the states and get assigned to high speed units/divisions. It's a career changer when you go from eating cake and Ice cream to Hard Rocks!!!

I hope you get what you wish for, the only way I got to go overseas was to do an enlistment extension for a year, it was well worth it.
