Ok the base itself is pretty decent. Indiana poured a lot of money into the place during the height of OEF and OIF. Everyone and I mean everyone trains there. All to include Guard, active duty, Marines, AF, Special Forces and Seals. Heck Special Ops has their own little compound there. What’s not at Atterbury can be found up the road about 50miles at Mascatatuck (MUTC) and even more train there.
The place does lack a bit, so don’t let the hype trick ya. It is still a Guard base and ran mostly by Indiana’s finest hillbilly guard.
Atterbury sits near several towns and cities. Biggest is Columbus IN, Franklin and a little farther is Greenwood which is getting closer to Indianapolis. Atterbury isn’t to far off the road from I65 which leads 35-40 minutes to Indianapolis. Right out the gate is basically Nineveh, IN which has decent schools and Franklin, IN which has a great HS. Stay away from Flatrock and their schools which has hole in the wall schools. If I was bringing my family, id raise them in Bargersville or Center Groove which is a slight 20 min hike but well worth it. Both are nice communities too.
Welcome, and if you meed anything from Indianapolis let me know. I just retired last year, but I still know a lot of people that are still in. I have a phone full of POC’s all around the state.
Feel free to hit me up even for any info about anything.

SFC Hutton first off let me say congrats on the retirement. Thank you so much for the information. I will be there the 10th of January. I’m pretty excited to get away from the regular grind of army for a bit. It should be an interesting assignment. I will definitely hit you up if I need anything. Again thanks for the response and help.

SSG (Join to see) - No problem and thanks! I saw you were in a lot of the same places I have been. I will say, Indiana weather, and even more so Atterbury is a hot HUMID place in the summer. Not as bad as Ft Knox but almost, and is rather cold in the winter.
