Old breed? New breed? There's not a damn bit of difference so long as it's the Marine breed.” Lt. Gen. Lewis B. 'Chesty' Puller.

MSgt (Join to see) In Boot Camp, we would say goodnight to Chesty Puller every night before going to sleep. I would have liked to serve under Lt. Gen. Lewis B. 'Chesty' Puller. An outstanding book that features this Marine Hero is "The Frozen Hours'" by Jeff Shaara.

I'd guess it's just like the Army with references to old school Army. The "old" reference point is always the group that was in the service 10-15 years before you entered. For me,, I entered in 1977, so the old school was the Army of the 60s and early 70s. To them, we were the soft new Army. By the time I left in 1999, people were referring to the way things were in the late 70s and 80s as the tougher old school. Now on RP I chuckle when I read soldiers from today wishing they could go back to the tougher standards of the old school 2000s!
I suspect that the young Marines in 2030 will be asking about the Old Corps of 2018. The cycle never ends.
