ENS (Join to see), I’ve never been aboard a ship that crossed the equator, but my father did in WWII. Here’s his story.
Ensign Jack Curlee was initiated into the SOLEMN MYSTERIES OF THE ANCIENT ORDER OF THE DEEP aboard USS LST-78 at latitude 00 deg 00' 00" and longitude "SECRET" on June 17, 1945. USS LST-78 was enroute to Biak Island from Leyte, Philippine Islands, so the longitude was near 136 degrees.
Here are photos of the actual event aboard ship in 1945: King Neptune and His Court; Emerging from Rotting Garbage; and Administering Truth Serum.
My father, one of the Greatest Generation, lived a long and full life, and passed away in 2015 at the age of 93.

SGT Randal Groover Bet the initiation is far more civilized now, than a couple decades ago.

On November 25th, 2018 - aboard the one and only USS Wayne E Meyer (DDG 108), I finally got the opportunity to cross into the domain of the Raging Main and have my slime and sand washed away under the authority of the Royal Court, His Majesty Neputunus Rex presiding, only after proving my worth and undergoing my trials.

Had the Rentz in one of my CVBG's back in the late 80's...I think they were out of San Diego at that time IIRC...
