Hello, I'm Prior Service Marine CBRN switching over to the Army. What is the CBRN community like in the Army?

SSG (Join to see) Just FYI, 740As are the CBRN Warrant Officers (CBRN Technician) and 74As are the CBRN Commissioned Officers and of course 74Ds are the enlisted ones..... all of which are different from each other as far as duties go. There's always at least one 74D in every unit/BN but there's not always an actual 74A in every unit/BN, any MOS (including 74s) that takes the 2-4 week CBRN course can then be assigned as the CBRN Room NCO or CBRN Officer (ChemO), you can't bee on additional duty as CBRN unless you've taken the course..... Now for your question, CBRN and EOD have now been combined under the 20th CBRNE Command (with "E" being Explosives or EOD - don't be confused if somebody says cbrne but a 74D is always CBRN and an 89D will always be EOD they are not both called "CBRNE" just the Command). Which means Chemical or CBRNE units now have both Chem and EOD Tech guys, unlike before where Chem Companies/units are all CBRN guys and EOD Companies/units are all techs. What that means for you if you get in a CBRNE unit is that now you have a chance to with with EOD side by side and cross train on everything..... Look up "20th CBRNE Command"

You're going to have to "sell" it to your Cdr that it is a perishable skill, that has to be maintained. It's more than just checking off the required "box."

Every company typically has one guy doing NBC in the company HQ. There are a few chem units, but I imagine that it won't be too different from the Corps (aside from the esprit de corps and discipline differences).
