I'll try to keep it short:
SSG with 10.5 years of combined NG and AD time (8.5 AD)
Next re-enlistment is at 9.5 years (July 2019), Hoping for Campbell or Stewart
I hit 10 years in January 2020, which is when I hope to PCS from Hawaii.

I will re-up before I hit 10 years, because I want one last opportunity to have my choice of Duty Station. Once this contract is up and its time to re-up again, will I be automatically placed in the INDEF program or is it still considered a re-enlistment?

On the day you reenlist, when you have over 12 years Active duty time and you're a SSG or higher, you will go indef (now called NCO Career Status Program).
Whether you receive a choice of duty station is determined by whether or not you are a Careerist Soldier - 10 yrs Active Federal Service from your BASD to your current ETS. It sounds like you are a Careerist, you will come one assignment 6 months prior to your DEROS from Hawaii and reenlist at that time.
It's all a moot point. Once you're a SSG you should be working with your branch to determine the best position for your career. Most of the Branch Managers lock the E6 assignments in RETAIN and code them so that no matter what, your branch is still the one choosing what assignment you're offered.
What's the difference between you calling your branch and getting the assignment VS the Career Counselor sending a request to your branch manager? You can cut out the middle man.
As for indef- right now you are contractually bound to your ETS. Once you're Indef you can separate whenever you choose, in the same manner as officers.
