I live in Uganda, where my parents are missionaries. I will be here until roughly 2 weeks before I start college. I plan to do ROTC and I was wondering if it is possible to get a scholarship before school starts?

The main question is if you are an American Citizen. Of course each branch is a little different, AF is stricter on some things than the Army is (I’m in Army ROTC). You can always apply, but I’d recommend contacting the recruiting/retention officer at the school you plan to attend first as he will know all the “fine print”.

As a former AFJROTC instructor I have found AFROTC scholarships very competitive. However, once a student is in college and taking AFROTC the odds of getting a scholarship increase significantly for cadets. Many schools have their own scholarships that are awarded to cadets. Get in to college, do well in school and be active in your Detatchment.

Even if you don't get a scholarship right away, go to a school with ROTC and take an ROTC class. If you show your value you will get a 3 or 2 year scholarship.
