I ETS in January and planned on joining the Reserves. However, 2 months ago I was in a car wreck and messed up my back. It is sever enough that some people have suggested I seek a med board. But I dont want to do that because Ive already lined up a real good job out of state, and a med board can take a year or more. Is it possible to join the Reserves, and start the med board from there? Can I join the reserves while injured?

SPC Joshua Bricker you need to take care of you! Starting or restarting a med board from the reserves isn't the same as one from active duty. Reserves is four days pay. Active duty is 30 days pay. If you're in pain or need medical appointment what good will it do you to piss off a future employer. If you need a med board due to it occurring while you were on active duty and qualify for a service connected disability you need to start right now. See VFW and or American Legion Service officers for assistance!

It depends- have you served your total of 8 yrs obligation yet? If not, they will put you into the (inactive) Reserves. If you have, you will still have to enlist to join the USAR- which means you could have to pass a medical- bad back= bad medical = no USAR,

I will have done my 8 years before I ETS. I am also being told that I should seek a med board, but doing so will keep in AD for a good while after my ETS date and I already have a good job lined up out of state, is it possible to into the Reserves, move to my new job, then get med boarded.
