How hard would it be to install blue force tracker technology to aircraft?

I've been watching CNN's non-stop coverage of this story today, COL (Join to see), and the commentators have been saying that better tracking devices could easily be installed in all commercial aircraft, but the airlines are not going to do the installs unless they are ordered to do so, because of the cost.

Right, sir. They mentioned today that the Airasia plane did not have whatever MH370 had on it to communicate with satellites.
I agree with you: It seems that something could be done (and should be done). They're saying that the airlines won't pay the money to improve these tracking systems until they're ordered to do so.

CW5 (Join to see), Look at the malaysia flight report. I think that the engines somehow were in contact to ensure their maintenance or phase maintenance was being conducted.

I find it difficult to believe we can't tie into some other existing system etc. Get 3M on it, they are good at making things better!
