Any lessons learned in completing the ILE through distance learning?

I am always curious why some folks choose the DL option. For most reservists, I've found the 2 weeks resident + 8 Battle Assemblies + 2 weeks resident to be the most rewarding, both in terms of getting something out of the course and professional networking. You wouldn't believe the amount of folks who start DL and then do the two week resident options instead after realizing what a mountain it can be. For example, for group projects the DL course requires an Officer to do every part of the group piece whereas the resident has each team member doing their role, much more like real life. I find it hard to believe that we offer it purely DL because you can't possibly recreate the learning that occurs from your peers and benefit of networking in person and getting to know more of your peers. Having said that, if you buckle down and really stick with it, you can finish the DL faster, I just think it's more painful and don't think you get as much out of it.

I did DL because of time away from my regular job. I worked at it diligently throughout the process. I did not have an additional 2 weeks if I wanted to go to AT with my unit and as a commander, when I was taking ILE, not going to AT is not really an option. I do think that it was confusing in the naming of it. I did ILE-common Core, I did not know there was a second portion AOC when I did the on-line version. So I thought I had ILE done, when in reality I only did the first part. So I applied for AJPME, filling out the forms saying I had completed ILE. I got to 3 days prior to graduation for AJPME and they told me I was not eligible to be there as I had not done ILE-AOC; which I had never heard about. So they let me graduate AJPME and then I was enrolled in the next DL AOC class immediately.

Thank you for answering this question, as you guided me in making my decision about which ILE to go, Sir. Is good to know that there are good mentors out there. Once again, muchas gracias!

I ran out of reserve juice doing overseas duty, so I could not cut more time out of my professional career.

MAJ (Join to see) - As a follow up, I actually decided against going to ILE, and retired after 34 years of service. The wife had been growing tired of my trips, and we no kids and our two dogs recently died, that did it for her. I guess I was third in line, but I had an "epiphany" and just like that put my paperwork and retired. It is hard, but now I am looking into retiring from my Postal Service job and do something else.

Yes, don't do it. 80% failure rate in DL ILE. Just do the two weeks at Fort McCoy, WI, followed by one weekend a month option for 8 months (16 days) with the same ILE instructors, followed by the two weeks again at Fort McCoy, WI and you're done. Get AT orders cut for each month's ILE weekend, and also attend your regular BA weekend. The ILE becomes your annual training.

Thank you for your feedback. I just completed DL ILE phase 1 and 2, and currently waiting a the registration process to go to phase 3 in Camp Parks, CA. DL ILE was challenging, but the level of difficulty was very low, in my case.

I have doubts regarding the effectiveness of distance learning, so I would like to share my perspective. While distance learning may have its challenges and limitations, it can also be a valuable and effective educational tool is it is used properly. Many individuals have successfully learned and acquired new skills through distance learning, as it offers flexibility, access to online resources such as https://studyclerk.com/essay-writing-help and the opportunity to develop self-discipline and independent learning skills. It is important to recognize that the success of distance learning depends on various factors, including the quality of the program, student motivation, and effective instructional strategies.
