Does anyone know of a transition program such as Green to Gold that compliments Active to Reserve transitions?

I'm a 7 Year E-6, looking at getting out and doing the Reserve thing. I will be finishing my Bachelors before my ETS date. I want to go the Reserve route, but I want to do that on the officer side. Has anyone heard of a program such as Green to Gold that does that or do I have to get all the way out and then re-enlist with a "break" in service?

You can also get with your Reserve Component Career Counselor at your installation and they will connect you with the Officer Accessions Team at ARCD. Depending on when you ETS you maybe boarded before you get out.

MSG Jabbour, I think that will be my best option. There are so many programs out there that I begin to have paralysis by analysis from trying to figure out where to start. Thanks four your input, MSG!

When you enroll in Army ROTC, you'll get more than college degree and scholarships. Gain leadership skills you can apply to your career and as an Officer.

LTC Shaw, thanks for the advice. This fuzzy process is starting to become clearer.

Where are you planning on getting out? There are regional readiness commands that cover regions of the country. I'd try to find a good Reserve recruiter that knows the Officer Reserve recruiters. There's such a thing as a Direct appointment to a commission. Some of your current officers senior NCOs could possible write your letters of recommendation for a direct commission. I was able to assist a prior service E-7 that I met as an E-6 ( break in service) He made it to E-8 before I was able to assist him in getting a Direct appointment packet together and accepted. He made it to Captain before retiring from the reserves.
Don't take a break in service. In the same fiscal year you get out of active duty get into a reserve unit that has your current MOS or future MOS you'd like to transition to that the commander would accept under a will train status.
As a Civil Affairs Soldier I'm sure you'll have some excellent opportunities you just need to know where to look!

Even if you don't get the commission part immediately it can all get worked out so that when you qualify for retirement you'll have that commissioned rank!

I agree with the LTC, the reserves in my area at least have an officer shortage, if you have your degree, get with the retention sgt for that area and the LTC for the battalion and talk to them about putting in a packet.

LTC Mohor, I'll talk with my CoC and see what goes into a Direct Commission Appointment or Packet. I think that is the route that I want to go. Thanks for your input!

Good luck! If your COC has the fear in the headlight looks be sure to reach out to Reserve Officer recruitment as they're the best SMEs on this particular commissioning source. Be thinking of folks you'd like to write a letter of recommendation for the packet. There's some examples with packet application but a strong recommendation can really make or break the packet! Need an example latter be sure to reach out!
