It's a huge post. Often they do training throughout the Bliss and WSMR training areas, which combined make up the largest training area in the country. El Paso kind of sucks and it's not uncommon for someone with chihuahua license plates to slam on their brakes in front of a government vehicle to file a lawsuit. Las Cruces is about 40 minutes away and is usually a much nicer town. Bliss itself is quite nice and when I was stationed at WSMR we actually needed to drive to Bliss to handle anything finance related. There are a ton of troops on that post. Have fun, but don't get into trouble and don't cross into Juarez because you are not authorized. Side note, a lot of clubs and strip joints in El Paso are off limits to service people, so know where you can and can't go.

I left in 2016, from a five year station there! If you’re part of a sustainment brigade, you’ll get plenty of experience! The new state of the art hospital should be finished by now. It’s a very musically astute area. They real try to have a variety of activities to do, bc there’s really nothing major around for about 80 miles in all directions! And think about venturing over into Mexico 7 miles south of El Paso (Definitely don’t show/use your military ID!!!), you’re NOT authorized.

SPC Deyton Privette I was there from 2009-2012, and I enjoyed it. I was fenced into the Army's (dysfunctional) dedicated testing brigade, 2-1AD; which didn't even stand up until nearly a year AFTER I got there, so that kinda sucked, but testing's not their mission anymore; lucky bastards!

The post is great--they spent obscene amounts of money on it--with amenities galore, and as for the city, I loved El Paso. Unlike the good Major, I never found it to be hostile (certainly not racist to me at any rate). In fact, a buddy from my unit enjoyed it so much he came back to live in El Paso (after he went to Korea for a year), once he ETSed. There's SO much to do, so there's never any reason to be bored.

It is a desert, so if you aren't prepared for very dry heat, get ready. Your car's paint may take a beating under constant sun, and it should be noted that cars have a nasty habit of miraculously finding their way over the boarder to Juarez, where, I'm assuming, is still off limits to you. Just stuff to keep in mind.

I went on to become an 88M in the Reserves, but when I was at Bliss, I was a grunt so I can't say what 88Ms do there other than what 88Ms do anywhere else; Motor Pool Mondays, drive places, pickup and drop off stuff, etc.

Good luck.
