Once upon a time it was clearly evident. The Constitution was written in plain language so that every citizen could read it for themselves. (Interestingly, the language is still plain after a couple hundred years plus) Sadly, we have allowed lawyers to read it for us. They have set themselves up like a priesthood and we are not worthy to speak for ourselves. We are ignorant rednecks, deplorables, the unwashed masses living in fly-over country, etc. If you read the Declaration of Independence, you'll see that we have done this to ourselves. The lawyers never would have had this power but that we gave it to them. In our striving to live as free peoples, largely uninterested in government and legalisms, we allowed them to rise above us. We might have voted them out, but didn't. Now we're at a tipping point where enough Americans like being subjects rather than citizens. They like having others take responsibility for them. Freedom and liberty scare them. No, none of this answers your question. It merely shows that your question is irrelevant. Sorry...

LTC John Griscom - I find it amusing that you believe anyone running for Congress has to take a comprehensive course on the Constitution and then maintain it with CEUs. It implies that you don’t understand our Constitution or fundamentally disagree with at least a portion of it. As you appear to support it, I’ll go the former.
Apparently you need to brush up on the Constitution, as it clearly provides the only requirements necessary for serving in Congress. Please see Article 1.
“No Person shall be a Representative who shall not have attained to the Age of twenty five Years, and been seven Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State in which he shall be chosen.”
“No Person shall be a Senator who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty Years, and been nine Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State for which he shall be chosen.”
You’ll note a distinct lack of ANY requirement for civic testing. Apparently, you didn’t realize that part of the oath you took was defending the Constitution that enabled ignorant folks to vote for other ignorant folks to serve in Congress. That is, unless you’re advocating for a Constitutional Amendment requiring Mandatory political/Civic education for careers such as politician and attorney. (Please answer ‘no’ to that).
That said, I wish people better understood the Constitution, also. Unfortunately, with the Constitution, you take the good with the bad.
Best of luck.

Curious that you find it amusing since the oaths that congressmen take are very similar to the ones we took. My point was meant to point that some of those serving today have missed the concept of what their oath entails. The only thing I advocate is they know what is in the Constitution and its amendments.
Maybe there would be less discussion of "separation of church and State" and more about "freedom of religion". At least that's how I read the First Amendment.

LTC John Griscom - curious? The oath entails defending the constitution.
As I pointed out, the Constitution has provisions for the requirements to serve in Congress. A civic test isn’t one them.
So yes, when you wrote, “They should have to take a comprehensive course on the Constitution before getting a law degree and have to maintain their license with CEUs concerning the Constitution.
Same for anyone running for Congress”, I found it amusing.
I wish our government was full with Lincolns and Madisons, but it’s not.
The Constitution is not plainly written to be interpreted plainly. This paradox is a blaring example. We only want the best and brightest to represent us, but our Constitution guarantees that anyone meeting a few age and living requirements is able to serve. Sure, it sounds simple in paper. In practice, it drives people crazy. And the whole document is full of stuff like this. And don’t forget to add the two+ centuries of case law that also applies.
Best of luck

1stSgt Nelson Kerr if you're referring to me, how many times have you seen me post Holocaust stories were I called David Duke an idiot along with the Iranian regime. I've also made the comment that stupid neo-nazis running over protesters in a Dodge Challenger. I own a Dodge Challenger now people are going to associate that with neo-nazis. I also make fun of white people because when I talk about white power, they are actually very stupid to make that statement. Make the example of the Irish versus the British. Both were white but yet during the Potato Famine the British considered the Irish less than dogs. Look until recently. Talk in the last hundred fifty years or the French always fought against the Germans. Look in Yugoslavia, they were all white but yet the croats, serbs and Muslims fought each other and they were all white. So white power is really stupid. And you've also seen me post stuff on The Blues Brothers making fun of Illinois Nazis. Instead of labeling me, you could have asked why didn't you include these idiot social groups?

LTC (Join to see) : I remember some fringe groups around and did some research to see who hung with who, who belong to cross groups with like concerns. Learned who not to associate with...good thing there were only a few(about 3?). Could have been more.. Never got back in the jaycees.. turned out to be a bunch of p.c.-Ing Democratic puppets.. they weren’t like that back in the few years I was in (78-79..) Never got in the politicking scenario.. helped with catering luncheons, dinners.. for those sitreps.. but no banner waving or passing out buttons.. I had school and Vet’s .org stuff going on..

1stSgt Nelson Kerr Antifa? No history of violence? Are you sure about that?

Just a couple. I skipped over many of the more "radical right" sources. And I stoppwd before the end of page 1 on search results. But there are plenty of pages.

Antifa violence escalates as movement goes mainstream
As the Antifa movement enters the mainstream, its sympathizers are escalating the violence from throwing rocks and blocking doors to physical assaults and, for the first time, killing.

SGT (Join to see) Sergeant, with all due respect you took that comment too literally. We have locks on our doors to keep people who would otherwise do us harm, out of our homes.
Of course the statistics are going to show that Americans cause more crime than illegal immigrants because we’re the majority. Remove our border control and I gaurentee those number would flip pretty quickly.
I’m not saying our system is perfect and I’m not saying I don’t feel pain for those in other less fortunate countries trying to escape turmoil and achieve a better life (much like my great grand parents from Poland), however I care about us, the U.S and our well being above all else, my family had to jump through hoops to build a life here and many like them have done the same.
There is no excuse why anyone should cheat the systems after so many other have sacrificed so much to do it the right way.
Best of luck.

Cpl (Join to see) - too literally? How else was it to be taken? You didn’t give an lol or even a ;-) to indicate a tongue-in-cheek nature to your comment. But that’s neither here nor there. Additionally, I understand the purpose of locks.
On what data do you base your guarantee? Because while I agree with you that illegal immigration needs to be figured out, quickly, it’s not due to a fear of crime or rising crime from illegal aliens. I am very interested, and I’d like to see those statistics.
While, indeed, statistics indicate show more crime from Citizens than immigrants as a whole due to being the minority, statistics also show that proportionally, citizens commit crime at higher rates than immigrants. If you’re actually interested, I’ll gladly provide multiple studies from multiple reputable sources that indicate that immigration and illegal immigration is not an indicator or reason for any increased crime rates.
Also, how would you answer the question I posed? “how do you explain the fact that while immigration, both legal and illegal, has increased in the past 40 years, crime has significantly decreased in the past 40 years?”
Best of luck.

SGT (Join to see) that cannot possibly be true. Illegal imkigrants, by definition have a 100% crime rate. Every single one of them committed a crime just to get here. Many of them committed MULTIPLE crimes.
