I'm trying to get my mos changed to 15w, are their any specific subject or books I should start studying with before going to school? What would be beneficial for me to know before going in?

As someone who has been training at fort Huachuca for the past year (Gray Eagle), you will learn everything here. Have a good study habit. Your basic knowledge of piloting/UAS will be learned in the first 2-2.5 months, after that, you will be assigned a platform and get basic tasks and further knowledge of the vehicle. If you can get gray eagle, you can consider yourself lucky. The aircraft and general life will be much better in the army.

Any chance you know if the MOS Transfer guys got treated differently than regular AIT? I’m going soon and trying to figure out if I should bring my car and if it’s possible to bring the wife

You can bring your car. Still going to be under the same company as AIT students living as a MOS-T. You’ll have separate barracks that aren’t too bad. Life is definitely better than AIT students, consider it the same as attending a class. As far as bringing your wife, I’m unaware as I went through as an AIT student.SPC (Join to see)

Honestly man, you could study whatever you want prior to going, but I would say don’t do that. During AIT, you will be taught a lot and it will be coming pretty quick. On average, I believe there was a test every 2 to 3 days. Just make sure that you focus on the material they cover in class and ask ANY and EVERY question you may have. ASK QUESTIONS!

Alright in saying that, would you/should I, consider studying for the FAA private drones licence exam?

Yes. At the end of UGS, you will be take the PPKT which you must pass for the course. You will also have the chance to take the small UAS license test. You don’t need it to become a 15W, but it will look better on your end when its time to market yourself. So yes, take the test! Accept any course the Army offers. It only helps you sell your self more at the end.
