I think good leadership understanding the pulse of their organization depends on side-conversations such as at the water-cooler, over a beer, or while on TDY.

Can you have this same kind of conversation with them electronically on Rally Point or rather still go "off the record"?

Sir,

On some things I would say yes, but on most probably not as it is hard in text or typing to know an exact tone of conversation or meaning that can many times be perceived as incorrect context or even improper environment for some.

I think that as we progress more with the site, such as IM or other forms of direct contact of the site and questions for guidance and mentoring, it could eventually become a better way for it, but in its current form, I don't believe it to be feasible just yet.

Capt Mullins, I'm not sure of RallyPoint's ability to be a conduit outside the office, but on other professional social media, I have reached out more to 'seniors' and have received some responses back. My best responses have been through official email however.
