Not going to pass blame or give excuses, I've let myself go. I failed my last APFT in October 2017 immediately before my unit deployed to Iraq. I'm now in my final month of the deployment and was notified of an upcoming PT test. I was also made understood that if I am to fail this test, chapter paperwork will be initiated. I have 4 months left in my contract, which is set to end December 1st of this year. Being this close to the end, and already looking at schools to attend, I would like to know what the likelihood of me losing my GI bill would be.

Unless it is medical, you need to be chaptered out. You had a year to work on passing. I would not want you in my unit if I deployed. You had already given up!

We got it MSG, you regard PT very highly. He obviously feels bad already about this, no need to kick a man while he's down. As a senior NCO, and a leader, you should be looking to motivate not demean soldiers.

In the Infantry I lead my men by example. If you could not run, carry your own weight, the Commander would chapter you out. In Special Operations as a Operator, you had to maintain a very high state of physical abilities. and once you failed an obstacle you were sent packing back to the regular army. We had 3 PT tests we had to take every quarter, the APFT, the Ranger Special Forces PT Test and the Delta Force PT Test which consisted of doing weights, climbing a rope, running 5 miles, and swimming a mile in Smith Lake as long as the water was above 50 degrees. Soldierings is self motivations. Leading is by example and maintain the physical standards of a Soldier is personal. Soldiering is not for the weak, simply put!

CW2 (Join to see) - The army is not an equal opportunity emplorer. You have to make the standards and maintain the standards. All he is concerned about is his GI Bill not his fellow Soldiers going into harms way. I already motivated him, he needs to go. He can learn about his GI Bill on the way out.

MSG Danny Mathers - You are right, the army is not an equal opportunity emplorer. I could care less about his GI Bill.
