Does being selected for an internship, train with industry or graduate school reduce your chances of being selected for CGSC/ILE?

So today I was speaking with a newly promoted Major who was competing at the next ILE board. We are both currently in internships. He shared with me that he had been told that being selected for LTHET (AMEDD Education and Training) reduces your chances of being selected for resident CGSC. Has anyone else heard this? Next year is my PZ for Major and I have it in my plans to attend resident CGSC (if the board selects me). Has anyone in the AMEDD or Competitive Category heard anything like this?

I've had many students attend resident CGSC after attending the Army-Baylor MHA Program, so it's definitely not a killer of your chances. However, I will say that regular Army jobs, and not academic AERs, are valued more by selection boards. Much will depend on what you did before going off to a school, internship or TWI. If you served in TO&E units, and did really well in command, you should be fine, regardless of whether you went through any LTHET program.

Thanks Sir. That’s just the perspective I was looking for. I did well in command (33 months) and my last assignment was with the 121 CSH. During my board I will have all OERs, my internship won’t be complete until after the MAJ and ILE board. Thanks again Sir! Great feedback.

If you are an FNP or CRNA you likely can have ILE waived. The army doesnt want to have you away from those vital missions of course! Best advice I ever got was to do the ILE all 3 phases with the Reserves/Guard component soldiers. That meant for me attending in person at Ft Dix for 2 weeks for phase 1. Phase 2 was one weekend per month for 9 whole months. Phase 3 was another 2 weeks in residence at Dix.

I'd hurry up and complete ILE as soon as possible, after your promotable. The boards for LTC are told not to discriminate for Officers who got their ILE other than the Leavenworth resident course. It doesn't matter now how you get your ILE done now- just get 'er done!
Shortly after I pinned Major- my Career Manager called me up & told me about the 16 week ILE Satellite Course- so I went & got it knocked out. Also got my AOC constructive credit because of my Simulation Operations (FA57) course. Not sure if constructive credit is available anymore (I read somewhere it wasn't)- but you could always take AOC via distance learning.
MAJ Samuel Weber Good luck either way.
