Everyone has something they take to the field with them that wasn't issued. Mine is a lawn chair that I cut a hole through so that I can go to the bathroom easier in the woods. What are some things that help you when in the field?

This isn't exactly that, SGT(P) (Join to see), but one thing I used throughout my career - and especially in the airborne infantry, when I had to be ready to move out quickly - was a poncho and poncho liner instead of a sleeping bag. The only time that didn't work so well was when we went to Alaska for arctic training. Double sleeping bags up there were not enough when we had to sleep outside. Still, there's a lot to be said for a poncho liner (if they still sell them) and poncho for a GREAT "sleeping bag." It's even water resistant! Get yours soon!

A Propane Torch. Any morning with a hot cup of coffee is a better morning....and I suppose the bottle could be used as a field-expedient explosive accelerant in a pinch.

Five gallon bucket. On the suggestion of another soldier I took one to Afghanistan with me. I put it in my duffel bag, it barely takes up any extra space. Used it for a chair, used it for washing laundry, used it to carry water for mixing concrete even. The uses for a 5 gallon bucket are almost endless.
