I know the title may come off as, just look it up, or duh one weekend. But, I work with some one who oddly enough does not go out for one weekend. The past two months I have worked with him he has been gone for two weeks in May and again this month. Does it depend of mos and or rank?

Yes and unit. Youngest son is in the Guard and works for the same company as me. He was gone for 2 weeks last month then still had weekend drill. Now he is gone again for 3 weeks.

It could be schools or other missions. Most units will excuse you from Drill if you have Active training during the month, or at least until you get some rank. As an officer, I averaged about 100 duty days a year between meetings, schools, extra duty assignments, AT's and Drill.

I thought of those scenarios you mentioned, but was unaware if my assumptions were correct. Thank you for your input.

I commanded a Combat Engineer Company in the Kentucky National Guard. We supported a National Guard Division out of Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado, so I was flying out there several times a year to planning meetings with them, plus schools, plus administrative extra duty, then AT and Drills and I would go on any interesting ADT's available, such as Reforger in Germany. Even on the enlisted side, I had guys doing both State Domestic Action Programs and Federal Civil Action Programs (building schools and bridges in Honduras and Panama when I was there), plus the supported the state marijuana raids in the area, plus fire and other duties. My point being that even then you could do one hell of a lot of extra duty if you wanted it. I abused my employers a lot, but they had a lot of Federal Contracts nationally and couldn't afford a VA complaint.
I turned down a long deployment in Panama because of some family issues that I kick my self for not accepting now.

It is my understanding that there is a well hidden secret within the Military when it comes to Reserves. I do believe there is a program/option that you can conduct your military training once a year for 4-6 weeks. I speak of this because I have a friend who is a MAJ in the AF Reserves and this is what he does, and my counterpart I just replaced here in Honduras, he is looking into that option.
