I was a Radio/Teletype/ Crypto Operator in the Army, but because I was an electrician before I enlisted any electrical work that had to be done I did it in my outfit (Hq Co 4th Bn 10 Inf Ft Davis Canal Zone Panama) . We did our own work, not like today were contractor are making billions off the taxpayers doing work that troops uses to do.

I was active duty for 12.5 years 1979 - 1992 did very little work as 12R. The most I did was while I was 1 of 3 Army Engineer Assigned to a military intelligence base in Germany during the cold war 1986 - 1989.
I did do quite a bit more During my 9.5 years in the National Guard and during OEF 2008 - 2017.

I'll tell you my experience.
After AIT you are 12r in title only. The majority of my work has been as a carpentry/masonry specialist and plumber. But I know that's not everywhere, just my experience. I think I've had three project that had anything to do with electrical and then it wasn't much.
