Why am I not labeled as prior service when re-enlisting from ARNG IRR to AD Army?

That's an interesting question, one of the pastors at our pentecostal church was NY ARNG, drills, DD214, all of it, and he can't get VA benefits, I checked, there's some weird provision that since he was never actually activated, or paid with Federal money, supposedly, that Natl Guard even if one drills, and he did during Vietnam, tough he was never deployed, can't apparently submit for VA benefits, I've been trying to wrap my head around that one now for quite awhile...I have a friend who was USNR, incl after 9/11, he wasn't activated per se nor deployed, so he can't get VA benefits either, and he got out of USNR as an O-4, I can't figure that one out either...I was USAF IRR, I do know my IRR time didn't could, as I'd never joined a Guard or Reserve unit before my total perm disability, that I do kmow is true, my IRR time didn't count, that I was sure of, honest, hope that helps somewhat....

I do have my NGB-22. But I not active quite yet. I am currently in-processing with an active duty recruiter. All my paperwork states NO for prior service.

ok - basically the NGB is the equivalent of the Army's DD-214 - On that form there should be periods of active service - if that is over 180 days, then I would go to your recruiter and speak to him about it - not a terrible fix - just an update to your files - Don't panic about it, just have that form when you speak to him/her

I completed a 3 year contract with the NYARNG. I am still obligated to IRR until 2020. I completed BCT and I am MOS qualified after completing AIT as well. I attended every drill weekend, every annual training and was also activated in response to both Hurricane Sandy and Irene.
