I was wondering if I could get some insight on how soon I can apply to WOFT after AIT and what I should do to help myself out when it comes to getting selected.

PFC Perry, the decision to apply for or attempt to become a Warrant Officer is a personal one. Warrant Officer Flight Training is the only Warrant Officer program in the army that does not require you to be an NCO or have ALC complete. What I recommend to you is study for the SIFT, take as many practice tests in the study guides and on the web as you can. You only get two chances to pass the test and the better you score the better your chances of selection. Once you have taken and passed the SIFT the next step is completing a flight physical. These are the two things in the process that are non negotiable. They must be passed to even be eligible. Once those two hurdles are crossed start working on your resume and the packet itself. Write as professionally as you can, have it looked over by Officers or Warrant Officers you trust. Once all of that is complete then and only then go and find an Aviation Warrant Officer who can write your letter of recommendation. Take your completed packet to them and request an interview. If you can't find one send me a message on here or look me up on global and I will try to help you find a Warrant Officer near you who at be able to help or point you in the right direction. Hope this helps.

PFC Perry,
I am currently finishing up my flight packet and listen to what CW4 O'Mara stated. Study hard for the SIFT and brush up on math, physics and read the FAA helicopter handbook. Don't worry about your rank when dropping a flight packet. I had several SPCs and PFCs in with me when I took the SIFT.

Right now the Army needs aviators and this is your best time to drop a packet. Start working on your resume (you can get the form from the WO recruiting web-page) and other parts of your packet while studying for the SIFT. Also, attend a Warrant Officer briefing at your post as they will be able to best direct you during the process. Good luck on your packet.
