I am currently a deployed 11B E-5. I want to drop a packet for 51C MOS. I’ll have a year and a half left on my contract when I get back stateside. I have a bachelors in business and only been in for 5 years. Should I apply while deployed, wait until I’m back, or re-enlist for the MOS change? I have read a letter of recommendation from a current 51C is good. Any other advice or tips? I really want to make this move. Also considering warrant officer packet as backup (can’t drop OCS packet because they aren’t accepting age waivers right now— I’m 33).

Warrant officer for which MOS? If it is flight, I would strongly reconsider thinking about it as a “back up”. Flight school is without a doubt the hardest program I have ever gone through including all four years of college. I was all about wanting to fly and I still questioned myself often. Copious amounts of studying and a ridiculous amount of information that needs to be retained in the least amount of time. Oh and then there is the physical flying part. If its something you really want, I highly recommend it as it has been very rewarding for me and I do not have any regrets; but if it’s not truly what you want your feelings may differ.

I would put the packet together asap... if you are selected by the board you won't assess until you get back anyhow.

Hold what you got for now. There is a process to becoming a 51C, but it sounds like you are on the right track. Go look at the 51C reclass requirements and make your decision. Please feel free to PM me for more information.
