So i ETSD from active duty about a year ago, and decided to try out the reserves for the last year i have left on my initial 6x2 contract. I signed a 4187 and they put me in this unit. Its not for me and i feel like I am wasting time and money going to these drills. I submitted my packet and they sent it up, i used the grounds of AR 410-10, 4-1, para D. "Upon completion of a contractual agreement to serve in a TPU which the Soldier incurred on initial enlistment in the USAR under a 3x5, 4x4, 5x3, or 6x2 option.", since that is what the units S1 told me to write as my reason. My question is how do i go about checking on this packet, the commander approved it, so it went to HRC I'm assuming. I hear these story's about how paperwork could sit there for months. I want to be proactive in this since i do not want to waste anymore of my time and money, i also have a job offer. I dont want to be doing school, my job, AND drill. What are some steps or POCs you guys recommend?

Once you have your recommendation memo from your commander, the packet will be uploaded into ePAT.
Each level above you will view it and the commander of each will add their recommendation memo, Battalion, Brigade, Major Support Command, and possibly your OFTS, before going to HRC.
As it is signed and pushed to the next level, it is visible in ePAT. Your S-1 should be able to see which level the packet is currently and how long it's been there.

For the 4x4 option, I got confused do my initial enlistment have to be in the Army Reserve. My first four year is not with AR, is with Army active duty, and transfer to Reserve when I finish my first four year contract. I still have about 3 yr Army Reserve time left. So will this one still apply. 2LT (Join to see)

SGT (Join to see) that will depend on what your contract says and what you signed when you left the AA. Your DD4 will spell out your Active vs Reserve time. Your DA 3540 will dictate your Reserve time between TPU and IRR.
Most contacts allow the last two years to be spend in the IRR. That packet is signed by your commander and sent straight to the RSC.
You can always request to go to the IRR but you need a solid justification. We can PM if you want me to look it over but your S-1 should be able to explain it to you

I found it, and it says “I am enlisting in the United States Army Reserve, for 8 years and 0 weeks beginning in E4 of which 4 year is considered active duty obligation, and 4 year will be in reserve component”2LT (Join to see)

I’m sorry it was not for you. Hopefully you will find a unit that is before you are discharged. The Army Reserve is very under strength and can really use trained experienced Soldiers. Wishing you the best and I hope you reconsider or look into another unit.

Thank you all for your responses. I got my orders today, effect today. About one week after I submitted my packet, fastest I’ve ever seen this type of thing happen.
