Everyone, now that Fury has been out for some time what did you think of it compared to other military movies?

Fury was up there with movie The Emperor. I still think Apocalypse Now and Patton were the best and Kelly's Heroes the funniest.

The only two issues I had were:

1. War Daddy was a long-barrelled 76mm "Easy 8" Sherman. She could have eaten a Tiger/Panther at normal range. So there was no need for the "dance." The dance was correct for three normal barrel M-4's engaging a Tiger/Panther (dance = two M-4's distract a Tiger/Panther while the third circles around to hit the thin rear armor). War Daddy would have known this as she was assigned with short barrel Shermans.

2. The SS at the end would have had one Panzerfaust at the most and would easiliy have shot War Daddy with it.

Kelly’s Heroes is the unofficial, official required viewing for all tankers. The official, official required viewing is Patton. Both awesome movies, though for different reasons.

When I was in armor for a couple years, my master gunner suggested the movie The Beast or the Beast of War as being the ultimate tanker movie.

Full Metal Jacket would have to be the closest representation of Marine Corps boot camp.

As a tanker, the tank battle scenes were amazingly accurate. Especially when it was dismounts vs armor. When Pitt’s tank is hit with a Panzerfaust at the beginning of the movie, my buddy and I both visibly cringed as the sound of the warhead hitting the as heard inside the vehicle was extremely accurate. We were both on the same tank in Iraq ‘03, and were hit with a RPG that penetrated the gun tube. The sound in the movie was identical to real life!! Extreme pucker factor moment.

Only problem is that historically, the Panzerfaust was taking out JS-2's and KV-85's. Pitt's tank would have been vaporized.

The tactics bothered me. Why would a tank unit be traveling alone without infantry support during this phase of the war? And from the other side, why would an SS infantry unit was time and resources on a disabled tank instead of just bypassing it, or just calling for artillery to take it out.
