Do you think in the past 8 or 10 years that promotion boards are getting easier? Over the years I've seen (in my apioion) younger and in experienced Soldiers being promoted. Now I'm all for Soldiers being promoted when they are ready for their next higher rank but it just seems that many are not ready but are still getting promoted.

I don't have as deep of a perspective on this as the NCO Corps would have, but I can say that promotion boards in Iraq were literally a guaranteed promotion. Platoons were sending really junior personnel (in terms of time in grade) to boards, and to a man they all got picked up. They had to do a few facing movements, uniform inspections were not very picky at all, and knowledge requirements were very low. This whole situation caused a lot of resentment in our unit. I recognize that this is one instance, and others' experiences may have been different.

Yes Yes and Yes. I know a soldier who could not say the creeds but could sing the Regimental song and got a pass

Boards are all different at all units, besides it all comes down to the CSM, some of them just make it easy. Being an NCO is not about how well you can remember the answers out of a study guide but what you need to do when your or any Soldier gets into a situation.
