0430-1500 work days including PT, learning the old school basics on some older "almost retired" dogs. It's not bad at all. I went through back when it was a service school but I heard it's roughly the same just a more strict. Day to day life is training your dogs on patrol and detection capabilities. It's a brotherhood and a family to be K9. Don't choose our MOS if you don't want to deploy. If you're passionate about dogs, and are easy to take criticism, it's the best damn job I ever had.

The job is an awesome one! You go threw BCT like everyone else, then off to FLW for military police school for 7weeks, then you are off to Lackland Tx. For 11 weeks of MWD Handler training, the days can be long not to get into the specifics of the specialized training that a handler will go through just know that the training is hard and there will be some long nights BUT it is worth all the blood sweat AND tears.

If you don’t love dogs, don’t want to deploy, and don’t like to be criticized don’t be a dog handler. I was a dog handler and kennel master in the 80s when most officers treated handlers like garbage because they didn’t recognize the value. A lot has changed since then.
